- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon maple extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)
- A little milk to thin (for glaze)
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast: Combine warm water with the active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let this sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Combine wet ingredients: Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, then add milk, melted butter, egg, and maple extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Let it rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Shape the bars: Punch down the dough, roll it out to 1/2 inch thick, and cut into rectangular shapes.
- Second rise: Place cut bars on a baking sheet, cover lightly, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven: While the bars are rising, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Make the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until desired consistency is reached.
- Glaze the bars: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars.

Serve warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
