Description

Delightful Maple Donut Bars bring comforting flavors of maple syrup and soft dough together, perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)
  • A little milk to thin (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast: Combine warm water with the active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let this sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, then add milk, melted butter, egg, and maple extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Let it rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Shape the bars: Punch down the dough, roll it out to 1/2 inch thick, and cut into rectangular shapes.
  7. Second rise: Place cut bars on a baking sheet, cover lightly, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven: While the bars are rising, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Make the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until desired consistency is reached.
  11. Glaze the bars: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars.
