A clever twist on a classic favorite, these delightful tarts combine creamy cheese and zesty jalapeños in a flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients

- 1–2 fresh jalapeños, sliced into thin rounds
- 120 g cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Pinch of chili flakes (optional)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (about 400°F).
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle small mounds of shredded cheddar cheese onto the parchment paper.
- Arrange thin slices of jalapeño over each mound of cheese.
- Dollop small spoonfuls of softened cream cheese on top of the jalapeños.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, black pepper, and optional chili flakes over the cream cheese.
- Cut the thawed puff pastry into equal squares.
- Gently place puff pastry squares over each mound and seal the edges.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until puffed and golden.
- Let cool for 2 minutes, then flip so jalapeños are facing up.
- Serve warm.
Notes
Serve these tarts warm. They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
