Description
Soft, buttery cookies studded with sweet maraschino cherries lightly crisp on the edges, tender in the center, and perfect for holidays or everyday treats.
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup maraschino cherries, chopped and well-drained
1 tbsp cherry juice (optional)
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Beat in egg, vanilla, and cherry juice if using.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined.
6. Fold in chopped maraschino cherries.
7. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets.
8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly set.
9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
10. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Drain cherries very well to avoid excess moisture.
Cookies will remain pale — do not overbake.
Can be finished with a simple glaze for extra sweetness.
