Description
Tender, buttery heart-shaped scones with a lightly crisp exterior and soft flaky center perfect for Valentine’s Day breakfast, brunch, or afternoon tea.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp milk or cream for brushing
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
5. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix just until combined.
6. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat into a 1-inch thick round.
7. Use a heart-shaped cutter to cut out scones and place on baking sheet.
8. Brush tops lightly with milk or cream.
9. Bake for 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
10. Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
Do not overwork the dough to keep scones tender.
Serve with jam, honey, or clotted cream.
Scones are best enjoyed the day they are baked.
