Description

Flaky, buttery, and irresistibly cute  these Heart-Shaped Puff Pastry Bites are a delightful treat for any occasion! Make them sweet with jam or chocolate, or savory with cheese and herbs. Perfect for Valentine’s Day appetizers, brunch, or dessert platters.

Ingredients

Scale

1 sheet puff pastry (thawed according to package instructions)

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tbsp water

Optional fillings:

• Sweet – strawberry jam, Nutella, or raspberry preserves

• Savory – shredded cheese, pesto, or cream cheese

Optional toppings:

• Powdered sugar (for sweet version)

• Flaky salt or sesame seeds (for savory version)

Fresh herbs or fruit for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Lightly flour your work surface and unfold the puff pastry sheet.

3. Use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pieces from the dough.

4. For filled bites: place a small amount of jam, chocolate, or cheese on one heart. Top with another heart and press edges gently with a fork to seal.

5. In a small bowl, whisk egg and water together for the egg wash.

6. Brush each heart with the egg wash.

7. For savory bites, sprinkle with salt or sesame seeds; for sweet ones, leave plain for now.

8. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden and puffed.

9. Let cool slightly. Dust sweet bites with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey if desired.

10. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For an easy filling, use store-bought fruit preserves or chocolate spread.

Make ahead and store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Try different shapes for other holidays (stars, flowers, etc.).

Best served the same day for maximum flakiness.
