Description

Buttery, soft heart-shaped cookies filled with sweet fruit jam  a classic, elegant treat perfect for Valentine’s Day, holidays, or gifting with love.


Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2/3 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup strawberry or raspberry jam

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add egg and vanilla extract; mix until combined.

5. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix just until dough forms.

6. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface and cut into heart shapes.

7. Use a smaller heart cutter to cut centers from half of the cookies.

8. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.

9. Cool cookies completely.

10. Spread jam on solid cookies and top with cut-out cookies.

11. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Chill dough if it becomes too soft to cut clean shapes.

Thick jams work best to prevent leaking.

Assembled cookies soften slightly as they sit, making them extra tender.
