Description
A buttery, crunchy classic English toffee topped with a rich layer of melted chocolate and crushed almonds the perfect holiday treat or giftable candy.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup finely chopped toasted almonds
Instructions
1. Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
3. Stir in sugar and salt, and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
4. Remove from heat immediately and stir in vanilla extract.
5. Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
6. Let it sit for 1–2 minutes, then sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
7. Allow the chocolate to melt, then spread it evenly over the toffee.
8. Sprinkle chopped almonds over the melted chocolate.
9. Cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate until set.
10. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.
Notes
Make sure to use a candy thermometer for best results.
You can substitute almonds with pecans or walnuts.
Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for longer storage.
