Description
A rich and cozy Caramel Apple Pie filled with warm cinnamon apples coated in buttery caramel and baked in a flaky crust.
Ingredients
Filling:
6 cups sliced apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or mixed)
3/4 cup caramel sauce (plus extra for serving)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp flour or cornstarch
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
Crust:
1 double pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
Finish:
1 egg + 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
Coarse sugar (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. Mix apples with caramel sauce, sugars, flour or cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice.
3. Place bottom crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
4. Add caramel apple filling.
5. Add top crust, seal and crimp.
6. Brush crust with egg wash and sprinkle coarse sugar.
7. Bake for 20 minutes at 400°F.
8. Reduce heat to 350°F and bake for 35–45 minutes.
9. Cool for at least 3 hours before slicing.
10. Drizzle extra caramel over slices before serving.
Notes
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best results.
Cover edges with foil if browning early.
Let pie cool completely so the caramel sets.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
