Description

Flaky puff pastry filled with creamy cheese and perfectly baked eggs  an elegant yet easy breakfast or brunch dish that’s as beautiful as it is delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

4 large eggs

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Gruyère cheese

1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

1 tbsp heavy cream

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp butter (for brushing)

Fresh herbs such as parsley or chives, for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Roll out puff pastry and cut into 4 equal squares.

3. Score a 1/2-inch border around each square, being careful not to cut all the way through.

4. Mix cream cheese, heavy cream, salt, and pepper in a small bowl until smooth.

5. Spread the cream cheese mixture within the scored border of each pastry square.

6. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the filling.

7. Bake the pastry squares for 10 minutes until slightly puffed.

8. Remove from oven and gently crack one egg into the center of each square.

9. Return to oven and bake for another 8–10 minutes, or until egg whites are set but yolks are still soft.

10. Brush pastry edges with melted butter, garnish with herbs, and serve warm.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add crumbled bacon or smoked salmon before baking.

If you prefer firm yolks, bake a few minutes longer.

Great served with a side salad or fresh fruit for a complete brunch plate.
